Dear members,

Tuesday, October 28, 2008

We want to get to know you! Here are a few questions to help us get better acquainted.

1. What is your favorite genre?

2. Do you have an all-time favorite book? What is it, and why do you love it?

3. Is there a book that you read during your youth that has stayed with you into your adult years?

4. What do you look for in a book?

I'll start things off.

1. I love reading fantasy and science fiction, but I'll read almost anything, if it's well written.

2.
If I had to choose just one it would have to be Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, a book about what might happen if people stopped reading. Bradbury has a beautiful style, his writing is very poetic.

3. Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher. I read it when I was 10 years old, and it was the first book to make me cry. It also started my love affair with dragons and the fantasy genre.

4. The most important thing, to me, are the characters. If the characters aren't believable and understandable then the whole book falls on its face, no matter how great and original the plot is.

Now it's your turn.

1. I don't necessarily have a favorite genre. I'll try about anything. Some genres that I've found I like a lot are: fiction (realistic, historical, whatever), mysteries, biographies, fantasy (although I tend to be picky with this about what I like...but I'll try anything).

2. I really like The Princess Bride, and I Capture the Castle.

3. I read The Giver in Jr. High and loved it. I would like to read it again sometime.

4. I'm not sure what makes me like a book other than it has to be intriguing with a good plot and characters.

1. I don't really have a favorite genre. As long as the books good, I'll read it.

2. My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice or Persuasion, both by Jane Austen.

3. I read a lot as a kid, but one book I've always remembered is Boy, by Roald Dahl. I just remember thinking is was soo funny. He was one of my favorite authors in elementary school.

4. Like Ashlie, I'm not sure what makes me like a book more than another, but I guess it would probably be the characters. If the characters aren't interesting, the book usually isn't.

1. It's practically impossible for me to have a favorite anything. Depends on the mood. Sometimes I read a few books at a time.

2. I really liked the Twilight series. I got really into it and read it really fast so I was able to remember more while I was reading it. I thought it was a really good intense love story. Team Edward!

3. I read the whole series of Work and the Glory. Twice. The more you read about characters, the more you get to know and love them. I also enjoyed Enders Game - don't remember much about it though.

4. To learn something from it, get wrapped up in it, intrigue, connect with characters, entertain, etc. I love books that I can't put down but there isn't just one specific thing that does that for me.

1. Mystery is probably one of my favorite genres, and since I haven't been as much of a reader since becoming a mom, I like funny light reads like chick-lits.

2. Favorite book---not sure I am that good of a reader! I've enjoyed the Shopaholic series, I liked Night by Elie Wiesel and The Good Earth by Pearl S Buck.

3. Where the Red Fern Grows I read in Elementary, it was also the first book that made me cry, it is kinda Old Yeller -esque.

4. Since I haven't been much of a reader as of late, my biggest thing is it has to catch me in the first few pages..with characters or plot.
