This is my attempt at an interesting post (of which I promised awhile back).

I found a bit of interesting information at this website: http://www.theweeweb.co.uk/book_facts.php.

The Library of Congress
The Library of Congress, Washington DC, USA contains 28 million books and has 532 miles of shelving.

If you were driving at a constant 70 mph in a car it would take you just under 8 hours to pass them all. And thats without stopping to go to the toilet!

The British Library in London is the 2nd biggest with 18 million books.

Now, that's a lot of books!

Also, I just finished reading The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler. If anyone likes mystery novels you should check this one out for sure. It's witty, funny, and captivating. The characters were interesting and likable, and the plot took some pretty unexpected turns.

Hope everyone is planning on reading Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict! Happy Reading all!

Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict

is the winner of our poll. So get to the bookstore, or to the public library and grab a copy. Don't have time to read? Grab the audiobook instead and you can listen to the book during your morning commute, or while you wash the dishes. The Washington County library has two copies. (or iTunes has it for $20.95, which is a bit pricey if you ask me. )
What's that you say? You don't live in Washington County and you don't know what your local library's website is? Well, no need to panic. Here is an online directory: http://www.publiclibraries.com/ has the address, phone number and website (if applicable) of every public library in the U.S.

When you've finished reading (or listening to) the book head over to our Forum and tell everyone what you thought about it.

March Madness

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Since it's already so late in the month I've decided to go ahead and pick the books for March myself. We will return to our regularly scheduled program come April. The three choices for March are:

Blindness by Jose Saramago

Away by Amy Bloom

Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict by Laura Viera Rigler

I am profoundly sorry that I've been slacking on my book club duties lately. life has just been crazy!

So bad.

I've been just awful at keeping up this blog lately. I just haven't had the time. But things are calming down, and I should have something up soon for those of you who are still participating. In the meantime, here is a peace offering in the form of some really awesome art made out of books (Which is actually only really cool if I try hard not to think about how they mutilated some great old book in order to make it):

Also: I'm sorry to say that I didn't have a chance to read February's book, but those of you who did are free to start a discussion over at our forum. I'd like to hear what you thought of the book, and I still plan to read it... as soon as I have some free time.
